When I was a medical student in China many years ago, my program paired each of us with two pregnant women. We followed them weekly from the third trimester of pregnancy until their children turned one year old. We met each week to provide medical and emotional support, accompanied them during their time in the hospital, and celebrated with them as their children reached their first-year milestones.
Back then, mental health, psychology, and counseling were almost unheard of in China. After graduating from medical school, I couldn’t find a program to pursue my interest in psychology or counseling. Instead, I entered a medical science program and earned my PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, which eventually brought me to Michigan. I worked as a researcher for over twenty years and continue to do so. |
Facing the challenges of being a first-generation immigrant, raising a child, managing a demanding full-time job, and sensing the needs of the community, I became involved in my church’s Stephen Ministry. All my personal experiences inspired me to seek formal education in psychology and counseling to better serve and support others.
I believe God is the ultimate healer, and I am His tool to accompany and support people in their healing journey. God led me into Moody Theological Seminary, where I graduated with a master's degree in Psychological Counseling. I have worked with a wide range of cases across different ages, genders and ethnic groups. My expertise includes, but is not limited to, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, addiction, parenting, relationships, and marriage. When appropriate, and with the client's permission, I integrate Christian counseling into my practice.
